Nancy and Gina
Do you have a quilting mentor? Maybe someone you go to retreats with? Perhaps someone in your quilt guild? Your favorite quilting teacher? Or maybe you have a particular YouTube quilter that you just love. My quilting mentor is Nancy Roelfsema and she fills all those roles.
When I met Nancy my creative outlets were yarn and glass related. I had accumulated a very nice yarn stash and used it for both knit and crochet. I own more knitting needles and crochet hooks than anybody really should own. I went through a stage of handspinning and knitted a hat from the fibers I plucked from an angora rabbit. The rabbits enjoy the gentle tugging that releases their longest coat of fur.
I also owned a kiln for glass fusing and a torch for turning glass rods into beads. And I did jewelry, made cards, turned pens on a lathe and more. You name it, I was doing it. I had done a little sewing in my earlier years and had made one hand quilted baby quilt for my now 37-year-old niece when she was born.
Nancy’s quilts are beautiful. Quite a few were hung on the walls of the office in which we worked. I fell in love with one and traded my wedding ring for it! (Freshly divorced, I had no more use for it!)
After a while I agreed to sign up for Nancy’s Learn to Quilt class. Great! Take a craft hoarder into a fabric store and bad things happen to my credit card. I was hooked. I dreamed of batik fabrics and shiny, new rotary blades.
While we aren’t legal partners in Quilting-Warehouse, I consider Nancy my Spirit Partner. I have worked with Nancy and some other friends on her YouTube channel OnPoint-TV. Soon I’ll be linking her videos to Quilting-Warehouse. I’m confident you’ll find her as entertaining and informative as her almost 15,000 subscribers. You might even see me in a video as a roving reporter.
Nancy and I will be working together to create fun projects that you’ll want to make yourself. We’re both happy to be sharing our experience and love of quilting with you!
Stay tuned for more information!
